Lion Dancing

Throughout the last decade, there has been a huge leap in the sharing of information on lion dancing around the world. The Internet has certainly contributed to this growth. No longer a secret art practiced by select groups, lion dancing is now open to people of all cultures and walks of life. However, the sharing of lion dance music continues to be a problem. Imitating others is a poor substitute for learning the proper rhythms, and meaning, of the music that is so vital to this type of dance. Until now there has not been an online resource for lion dance drumming techniques.

By combining the power of the Internet, our knowledge of lion dance drumming, and traditional music notation, lion dance music instruction is now available. Information on the Hoc San (He Shan) style of lion dance is contained in downloadable files here.

The information and knowledge is freely and gladly shared for all those interested in lion dancing. It is hoped that the evolution of lion dance music and lion dancing continues to build upon the stepping stones provided here.
Happy Lion Dancing!
